Modern Day Slaves

We thought when the chains, the whips and hanging ropes were outlawed that we were                                 finally  free
But if you look closely and study the scene
                      You'll see, as I see
           There's a Modern Day Slavery

A lot of us are still struggling

No matter how many of us have succeeded
As some will try to explain

We're still hurting and oppressed                                                                          Within our minds
As we're separated and picked among by                        wolves in sheep's clothing

             Pretending they're on our sides

Don't be fooled by these things that "turn into light"
Then they unclothe and reveal themselves                      in the dark of the night

If you allow yourself to be lax and                             your armor's incomplete
You're setting yourself up to be eaten
Your heart and mind they'll deplete

Once you are drained of all hope to carry on
           They'll abandon you like waste
Quickly moving on to the next victim

                         You stand erect
Heal and return to the strength that will          restore your nation, hope and joy
That goes for you Black woman, man, girl                                 and boy
For we are a mountain and we shall  NOT                               be moved
